Bandon’s U14 boys got their cup campaign off to a great start with a fantastic win away to Strand United. Going into the game the lads knew it was going to be a tough game after narrowly defeating Strand at home two weeks previous. From the offset both teams were cancelling each other out with hard work and determination from both teams paying off. As the game proceeded Bandon started to settle into the game quicker with Peter Callnan and Mattew Elsonbokhty pulling the strings in midfield and switching the ball from one wing to the next. Shane Lowney playing outstanding football this season so far was causing problems again along with Paul Lang playing at right full getting some great over laps. In the first half they managed to get total 10 crosses into the box and these were causing problems, resulting in Bandon getting five corners. 25 mins into the game it was Bandon who broke the deadlock from a treating corner Mattew was fouled by the Strand keeper and the referee pointed to the spot. Shane Lowney stepped up and slotted the ball home with great confidence. Bandon went on then to close out the first half with a 1-0 lead. Aaron Daly along with his centre half partner Adain O’Mahony make some great tackles and proved to be solid through-out the game. Bandon were unlucky not to double their lead with some great pass down the left hand side from Philip Wall. Nelson McCarthy working together who found Jeon who was very unlucky not to find inform striker Connor O’Driscoll.
Second half begun with Bandon playing downhill, both teams found it hard to get started with the first 10 mins been scrappy. Bandon settled down nicely with some great defending starting with Bandon goal keeper Ciaran McCarthy pushing Bandon forward. Bandon worked as a unit to close Strand down while they were putting the pressure on to get the equalising goal. Ciaran pulled off three great saves and put his body on the line to keep Strand out. This was an outstanding performance from the whole squad. Bandon did manage to hold out and they now advance to 2nd round.
