Bandon went into a tough league game after having back to back defeats in league and cup, knowing a win would push them back up the table. With the pitch in excellent condition the two sides provided a goal fest for the spectators. It wasn’t long into the first half when Bandon took the lead after some great build up play Bandon were rewarded a free kick just outside the box. Peter Callnan took full advantage when he stepped up and sent it straight into the top corner. Passage straight away put on the pressure which Bandon soaked up with some great clearances from Philip Wall and Nelson McCarthy. Passage where next to score with some shocking decision for the official there was a double offside in the build-up. Ciaran McCarthy in goal was very unlucky not to keep passage from scoring, Passage built on their goal and it wasn’t long before they had the lead with an unfortunate spill from Bandon’s goal keeper and the combination of Bandon losing their shape in defence. Bandon then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with some great heart and determination from Bandon’s two centre midfielder’s Peter Callnan and Paul Lang, as well as Bandon’s right back Jeremy Collins. Bandon didn’t wait long until Bandon brought it back to level terms and again it came from a good build involving most of the team and it was a great through ball which Adam O’ Donavan Irwin who hit a great strike into the top corner. This wasn’t the end of the goals in the first half as again Passage took the lead again against the run of play. Bandon again didn’t sit back as Shane Lowney started to influence more and more of Bandon’s attacks down the right hand side. With 5 minutes remaining Passage keeper picked up a pass-back and Bandon were rewarded an indirect free kick inside the box. Paul tipped it off to Peter Callnan who smashed home his second goal and got Bandon back on level terms. Half time it was 3-3.
The second half begun with a high tempo from both sides, both defences had tightened up. It was a tough midfield battle that whoever won it would influence the next goal. Robert O‘Driscoll came on centre half and wasn’t long settling into the game. He swept up some great balls and was solid right through the second half. Bandon were next to take the lead and for the second with a great kick out from Ciaran McCarthy which Aaron Daly contested, flicked the ball onto his strike partner Adam O’Donovan Irwin who played a great one-two and Aaron had great strength to power through the Passage defence and slot the ball into the bottom corner. Bandon ad on brought on Jack O’Donoghue another U13 player who never looked out of is depth. His confidence grew every time he got on the ball and was not afraid to take the game to Passage defence along with him doing his defensive duties. Bandon looked like they were going to see out this game at 4-3 and it was Jeremy Collins who was leading from the back with some last ditched tackles giving 100%. Passage were starting to pill on the pressure which Bandon were sweeping up with some great clearances from Nelson McCarthy and Robert ‘O Driscoll but another decision went against the lads as Passage had a deliberate hand ball on the edge on Bandon’s penalty area which the referee never saw and within seconds it was all level once again. With only minutes remaining both team wanted the winner and once again Bandon showed their strength and character with a great through ball from midfield sent Adam O’ Donovan away who took it around the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. Finally the final whistle went and Bandon had bagged another 3 points.
