2nd November 2012
The game was played in the coldest of conditions with the top surface near frozen by the end of the game. Both teams had the opportunity to go top of the league with Bandon in 2nd an blarney in 3rd. Bandon started the brighter and after a flowing move and an excellent cross from Ger Harrington which found Holden with a powerful head well saved by the blarney keeper, Bandon threatened again from a free kick from Holland which went narrowly wide. Blarney were struggling with Bandons attack and did well to hold out for the clean sheet at half time. Bandon again started the better in the second half but nearly found themselves behind from a strike from distance which hit the top of the crossbar. Blarney never really broke down a resilient Bandon defence and were led with half chances and strikes from distance. Bandon opened the scoring on 70 minutes when the two Holland brothers combined and a shot from Richie saw the ball break to Brendan Cullen who hammered the ball home. Richard could have made it two only for the defender to clear off the line and soon after it was Brendan Cullen who cleared off the Bandon line as blarney pushed for the equaliser. The last five minutes the game opened up and both teams were unlucky not to score but in the end Bandon took all 3 points and returned to top of the league with a great win and clean sheet. Bandon return to league action next Saturday with a home tie to Castleview. The game finished with Bandon introducing under 17 Gavin Shields and the young man made a good impact on his senior debut.
Goal: Brendan Cullen
Man of match: Sean Holland influential all over the park and especially in the Center of midfield, also very unlucky to score one of the greatest goals ever with a clinical nut meg and the vision to attempt to chip the keeper from the half way line, but only foiled by a last ditch save by the retreating keeper.
