Bandon travelled to Watergrasshill to contest the quarter final of the Kay McGrath cup. Bandon were under pressure from the start. Watergrasshill putting dangerous ball on top of the back line of Anna Daly, Laura Barr and Shannon Cregan.The back line along with keeper Maeve O’Driscoll dealt with the pressure. Watergrasshill had a quick break and they converted their only chance of the first half mid way through. Bandon responded well putting pressure on with Aoife Harrington, Emily Holland, Izzy Canniffe and Niamh Trunwit linking up well in midfield. Eimear Crowley was unlucky not to have scored but the Watergrasshill keeper got down well. Bandon made changes bringing on Veronica Endepu and Orla Trunwit. Bandon were very dangerous on the break but were unable to convert there chances. At half time Bandon were down 1-0.
Bandon started the second half very brightly winning a corner from the tip-off. Bandon forced watergrasshill into numerous corners. Bandon brought on Rachel Carney and she was unlucky not to score with first time shot. Kate Weblon was brought on and she also was unlucky not to score. All Bandon pressure paid off when Bandon won a corner. Harrington crossed the ball in and Canniffe made no mistake in putting it in the net. Bandon went on and applied more pressure with Niamh Trunwit unlucky not to score. Bandon back three had a lot of pressure to deal with and they did so superbly. Full time 1-1 all.
Both teams were tired but had to go and play 10 minutes each way. The Bandon girls were very determined to get the win. Holland and Endepu were dangerous on the break and unlucky not to score. The second half was not a brilliant game of football as both teams were tiring and neither team were able to get the winner. It went to the dreaded penalty shootout. Bandon were very lucky and had 5 players full of confidence willing to take them. Captain for the day Cregan decided for Bandon to take the second penalty .O’Driscoll stood tall in goal and made the save. Up stepped Holland but was well saved by the Watergrasshill keeper. O’Driscoll hit the next shot around the post. Canniffe stepped up and made no mistake in putting in the back of the net. Once again O’Driscoll stood her ground and saved. O’Driscoll took her penalty and proved her versatility when slotting in the corner. This gave Bandon the win they deserved.
