The game would see the winner take on Airtricty League side Waterford United in a home semi – final tie with Cork City and Avondale making up the other semi. With this on the cards both teams were tentative to start with no real chances being created, Everton had the better of the possession but rarely created much and found themselves unable to break down a solid compact Bandon. Everton best chances cane from a run of 4 corners but Bandon defended well. As Bandon got into game more they grew in confidence and soon found themselves 1-0 through midfielder Gavin Shields who was outstanding throughout. It was an individual goal that saw Gavin press to win the ball and then beat two more defenders with sheer determination and then calmly slot the ball home into the bottom corner. Everton reacted and pushed for an equaliser and found it just before the half when a header at the back post riffled into the top corner. Bandon started the second half strong and Sean Holland and Gavin Shields were pulling the strings in midfield and Bandon should have taken the lead again only for some fine saves from the Everton keeper, first through Holland and the Cullen. The second was coming and substitutes Harrington and Dunlea were both involved before Richard Holland finished clinically into the bottom corner from 6 yards after some excellent work from Brendan Cullen. Bandon were in control now and should have added a third. With the last five minutes approaching Everton pushed hard and the pressure paid off when they scored a sloppy but all important equaliser. This saw the game go into extra time and penalties. And the penalties were of a very high standard with both teams finishing there 5-5 and leaving it go into sudden death and Bandon converted two more before missing and Everton seized the opportunity and won 8-7 on penalties. In top form for Bandon was Richard Holland, Sean Holland, Benny Lynch, Darren Cullen and Shane Barry.
Bandon return to cup action next Saturday with a home tie in the last 16 of the Pop Keller Cup with a 2.30 kick off versus Castleview.
