29th September 2012
Bandon Under 12 girls played their 2nd match of the season and their first at home, when they played Springfield Ramblers on Saturday 29th. As in the previous match, Bandon conceded an early goal and faced an uphill battle from there. Springfield poured on the pressure after that, and Bandon goalkeeper Maeve O’ Driscoll pulled off some great saves, but unfortunately Springfield reacting quicker than the Bandon girls, managed to get on the end of some of the rebounds and hit three more before the break. 4-0 down at half-time, one could understand if the Bandon girls let their heads drop, but the 2nd half was a different story. Roared on a great home support, Bandon piled on the pressure and were rewarded when Emily Holland scored a terrific goal, direct from a free-kick. Shortly after Izzie Canniffe scored the goal of the game, racing from the halfway line, before planting the ball in the left hand corner of the goal. Bandon came agonisingly close to number 3 on a few occasions, particularly when the ball was cleared off the line, after hitting the post. Unfortunately Springfield hit number 5 right on the final whistle, but this doesn’t detract from what was a great 2nd half performance by the Bandon girls, in what was only their 2nd ever match. Next up is Passage away in 2 weeks time and hopes are high that a result can be achieved. All twelve players played their hearts out, but particularly impressive were Maeve O’ Driscoll in goal, Izzie Canniffe in midfield and Laura Barr in defence, with the rest of the panel being Katie Barr, Chloe Desmond, Niamh Trunwitt, Amy O’ Callaghan, Jolie McCabe, Aoife Harrington, Jordan Warren, Elena Behan and captain for the day Emily Holland who scored that great goal.
