6th October 2012
The game was played in superb conditions with the pitch impeccable and the weather to match with the sun shining and it like a warm summers day. Bandon came out of the blocks straight away and within four minutes were ahead as Brendan Cullen ran through the keeper took him down and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot but strangely decided against any further action against the keeper. Holland stood up and slotted the ball into the top corner. Bandon should have doubled their lead soon after but for a fine save and Cobh were passing the ball well but to no real penetration until the 20th minute when they forced a corner and from this the ball broke nicely to be slotted home to equalise, a poor goal to concede but a bad voice of defenders back. This motivated Bandon and their frustrations motivated them even more and some great work from Brendan Cullen saw a ball crossed at pace knocked into their own net. Sean Holland was creating great opportunities for Bandon with some excellent passes and he didn’t show any signs of pain as he played through a back injury. 2-1 soon became 3-1 when Richard Holland took a free kick and the keeper was able to save but Holden was quickest to react and knock the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-1 before the half.
The second half saw Cobh throw everything at Bandon and were unlucky at times not to add a second but another sweeping Bandon move saw a great run of the ball by Moore matched with a pass from Holland and as the ball dropped Moore dropped the shoulder rounded the keeper and slotted home nicely to make it 4-1. This seemed to kill the game but also to make it very open and Cobh still battled and were unlucky when they hit the post and the crossbar and Bandon could have added at least 3 more from numerous opportunities but the game finished 4-1 , a comprehensive win in the end and Bandon progress to the Munster Senior Cup 3rd round to play Passage away with the winners into the quarter final draw with Cork City, Waterford and Limerick all in the open draw at quarter final stage their is huge motivation for both teams to put their names in the hat.
