22nd September 2012
Bandon travelled away to last years league winners Lakewood, for their opening game. This was going to be a big ask for recently promoted Under 14s, and was made all the more difficult with only 10 players lining out. Bandon started slowly with our back four coming under pressure from the word go. The home team piling on the pressure, and only for keeper Leah Buckley pulling off some stunning saves, Bandon would have been real trouble early in the game. Mid way through the half Bandon turned defence into attack with Nicole Quinn’s long range clearance found Sophie Hurley out side the box, having to see off two defenders to coolly slot home the opening goal. Bandon were again under pressure from the tip off with home team determined to get one back. The back four of Nicole O Sullivan, Jane Twomey, Suzanne Casey and Meg Hurley held out for another 15min before Lakewood got their equalizer. One all at half time.
After the break Bandon started well with Quinn and Meave Lynch combining to set up Quinn who was unlucky not to score. Bandon kept piling on the pressure with Alison Murphy (on here first game) and Siobhain O’Sullivan coming more into game and causing problems for the home defence. An early cleared Bandon ball found Sophie Hurley in the centre and under pressure played a well timed ball through to Nicole Quinn who made no mistake with a solid strike to the back of the net.
With twenty minutes left on the clock it was backs to wall for Bandon, and with the home team introducing fresh legs the equaliser came with five minuets left on the clock. Bandon did not give up, and with every chance they got, kept on attacking, to the final whistle. A good result for the girls from a very tough game. Player of the match keeper Leah Buckley.
