Only 3 days after meeting in the league, Leeds and Bandon crossed paths again in the Keane Cup. A blustery evening did not make it easy for either side.
The Seniors had the best of the opening exchanges and took the lead after 18 minutes with a fine goal by Brendan Cullen, his second in as many games.
From here, Leeds grew into the game and began to look dangerous. They could have equalised if not for a superb last stitch tackle by Bandon full back Jack Kelly.
For the rest of the opening half, Leeds continued to press for an equaliser but this was being thwarted by an excellent Bandon defence marshalled by Lee Holland and David O’Neill. However, shortly before the break, Leeds gained that equaliser from a corner. 1-1 and it stayed that way at the break.
Just after half time, Ronan Crowley kept things level with a superb save. Moments later, Shane Barry nearly struck the top corner for the visitors with a fine strike but the keeper made an equally good save.
The second half was much more of an equal affair with good chances at both ends. Bandon had the wind in their favour in this half and were putting Leeds under a bit of pressure. 76 minutes gone and the ball fell to Captain James McSweeney who hit a great strike but it just went wide.
With 10 min remaining, Leeds hit the front. A good finish. 2-1. A few minutes later and it was 3-1.
The Seniors worked their socks off but it wasn’t to be tonight.
