The game saw both sides spending the opening minutes dealing with the conditions, as the pitch was extremely heavy and the surface was not at its best. But once the players got over this they tried to knock it about but both teams were compact and restricted the other to half chances and strikes from distance. This was the story of an unattractive first half but the game seem to open up more in the second with both sides steeping up the gears and it was Bandon who looked the more likely to open the scoring, but some fine Mallow defending kept them in the game. In the end it was the changes that made the difference with the Mallow subs making no real impact and Brandon’s quality prevailed with Richard Holland and Ger Harrington bringing on fresh legs and keeping the quality high. It wasn’t long before they made their impact creating some great chances. And Bandon were unlucky not to score but for some good Mallow defending, the goal came with seconds left before extra time and it was the pace of Cullen in behind and he was taken down for a penalty, the center half got his marching order for a second bookable offence and in all honesty he was lucky not have been sent for the earlier incident when he kicked Holden off the ball, Mallow did everything in their power to try and put Richard Holland off but he ignored it all and stood up and send the keeper the wrong way and finish calmly into the bottom corner. In the end it was the result Bandon deserved. In top form for Bandon was man of the match Mick Bradfield and his fellow defenders looked impenetrable as well with Sullivan and the Lynch brothers solid throughout. Hurley adds yet another clean sheet and Bandon now return to league action with an away tie Friday 2nd November to Blarney.
