Bandon had a tricky away tie on Sunday away to Midleton, going into the game the players new that they were beaten well last year and were determined to turn it around. On the back of a good win in the FAI cup Bandon went into this game full of confidence. You could see there hunger from the first whistle with some strong tackles from the middle of the park Peter Callnan was leading by example and setting a high tempo for the rest of the team and they followed his example. Bandon were unlucky not to take an early lead with some great build up play from the back set Adam O’Donovan Irwin through but Midleton keeper pulling off a top class save. Midleton were starting to threaten down their left wing but Bandon right full who is in top form Paul Lang kept them quiet with some great tackles. Paul was well backed up by a lively right winger Jeon and the two centre halves nelson McCarthy and Adain O’Mahony. The deadlock was broken after 18 mins and it was Midleton who took advantage with a quick break down the right hand side they whipped a fantastic cross which was unclaimed by Bandon Keeper and Midleton slotted the ball away. Bandon were not holding back and got the ball straight out of the net and up their tempo straight away. Bandon created some half chances with Edward Hetherington Adam O’Donovan Irwin Aaron Daly but Peter Callnan had Bandon’s best chance but were all unlucky to score. 5 minutes later Bandon did pull it back to 1-1 with great defending by Philip Wall set up an attack the ball was played over the top, Aaron Daly knock the ball on with his head and with some great pace, strength, determination and power slotted the ball passed the advancing Midleton keeper. It went into half time 1-1.
The second half begun and again Bandon looked the brightest from the start again creating some half chances and it wasn’t long into the second half before Bandon took the lead. With a great through ball from Peter Callnan is was that man again Aaron Daly who got onto iton his right foot he turned back taking two Midleton defenders out of the game and calmy slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. Bandon now battled hard for the rest of the game with fresh legs comin on up front and on the wing with Darragh Healy and Jermey Collins playing there part and worked hard for their team to make sure Bandon got over the finish line, they wouldn’t have done this but only for Bandon’s No.1 Ciaran McCarthy who made up for a first half error pulled off 3 top class saves. His communication towards his backline was great and helped them to the final whistle. In the dying minutes with the referee after adding on a lot of stoppage time Bandon put their bodies on the line even if they knew they were going to pick up some knocks. It truly was a fantastic performance by the young fella and we hope to push on from here.
