Bandon started the strongest despite only starting with ten player. For the first 15 mins it was all one way traffic until 20 mins in when Kate O’Donovan put a though ball for Aideen Lynch to run on to. Lynch made to mistake and slotted it into the bottom corner, leaving the Midleton keeper no chance. Bandon’s front trio of Ciara McKeown, Shauna Molloy and Alison Murphy kept the pressure on from the restart and stretched the Midleton defence. Despite all of Bandon pressure Midelton were a huge treat on the counter attack. This is when Bandon capitalised once again where Suzanne Casey played a perfectly weighted pass to O’Donovan who linked up Nicole Quinn, Quinn and O’Donovan gave each other numerous one twos before O’Donovan back healed the ball to Quinn and like her team-mate Lynch she made no mistake putting Bandon 2-0 up. Even though Bandon were 2 to the good the Bandon girls pushed on to get an insurance goal before the end of the half. The midfield line pressure paid off. Quinn crossed the ball across the face of the goal thus making the Midleton defence under pressure and Murphy made no mistake with converting from close range. Half time 3-0.
The second half kicked off with Bandon were under pressure from the restart due to a very strong wind. Bandon’s back four of Rebecca Crowley, Aoife Hurley, Kerri Buckley and Suzanne Casey dealt with this pressure. They were aided by goalkeeper Leah Buckley who made numerous saves and kept her back four on their toes for the game. It was a game of two halves where the Bandon midfield and forwards were well on top in the first half and in the second Bandon’s solid back four and keeper were in control of the game. It was a brilliant team performance by a young Bandon team who have made it threw to the next round of the cup. Full time 3-1.
In today’s game there was no stand out performer as all 11 girls rose to the challenge and they delivered brilliantly.
