Bandon’s first league game of the season under their new managers Paul O’Brien and Dave McSweeney saw them make the long journey to Park United for a 10.30 Saturday morning kick-off. Bandon won the toss and chose to play up the hill and against the wind in the first half. Park United pressed hard from the start for a goal and won numerous corners but thanks to some brilliant defending from Jack Calnan and Brian McSweeney to name but a few and superb goalkeeping from Dylan Traynor who rushed off his line 3 times to clear the ball, the score was nil-all at half-time.
The second half started brightly in which both teams went looking for a win. Before long, Park United were awarded a penalty. Brian McSweeney fouled the Park United forward in the box in a good attempt to win the ball but the Park forward just nicked the ball away. The first penalty was very well taken giving the Bandon goalkeeper no chance. One-nil to Park United. Bandon pushed hard for an equaliser and when they won a corner Park broke quickly up the pitch and scored a second. Bandon nearly got on the score sheet when Gavin O’Brien shot from a tight angle only for Park’s keeper to send it around the post.
A very entertaining game of soccer was played. Both managers agreed it was great to see the game been played with such intensity.
The game finished Park United 2 Bandon 0.
