A damp and drizzly morning in Bandon. Saw Douglas Hall come for the opening came of the C.W.S.S.L. It was the visitors who dominated the starting 20 minutes but failed to capitalize and then Bandon started to came into the game for the last twenty minutes of the half, with good pressure on Douglas’s defence coming from Nicole Quinn and Kate O’Donovan but disaster struck for Bandon at the end of the half when the inform Niamh McGrath had to come off injured.
Bandon started the brighter in the second half passing and pressing the better of the two teams. Ten minutes in Katie Desmond on the right wing crossed in a well placed ball to Leah Buckley who made no mistake and put the ball into the back of the Douglas net to give Bandon the lead. The goal spurred Douglas into attack mode and backed soaked up wave after wave of attack thanks to keeper Grainne Cowhig and sterling defence of Aoife Hurley and Kerri Buckley keep Bandon a clean sheet until the 65th minute. Douglas struck from outside the box which was well stopped by Cowhig fell to a Douglas striker who finished it into the back of the net. For the last 15 minutes it was a game for a neutral to watch with heart stopping moments every minute with end to end soccer in what was a fair and physical game and with both teams using their bench for Bandon Shauna Molloy and Leah Buckley and a good performance from midfields from Aideen Lynch and Sophie Hurley in the backline Rebecca Crowley and Suzanne Casey. Two teams for the last four years who have been inseparable even with the new Douglas signings it still ended 1-1. Considering Douglas’s dominance in the first twenty minutes and Bandon dominance in the first twenty minutes of the second half 1-1 was a fair result.
