Bandon got their Munster Senior Premier League season off with an away game to city side Everton on Sunday morning in strong winds and driving rain. The Bandon team took the game to Everton from the first whistle putting them under pressure all over the pitch and should have took the lead in the 20th minute when forward Brendan Cullen was put through by a great ball from Richie Holland but unfortunately Cullen shot just wide of the post. Bandon had three good chances in the first half.
The second half started with Bandon driving forward as they did the first with good pressure but no end result and the paid the price in the 65th minute when Everton scored after a break from down the right. The game was ebb and flow after that with both sides having chances. Bandon were certain that they got a deserved equaliser in the 80th minute when Cullen finished neatly after a good move but in a very close decision the linesman’s flag ruled it out for offside.
Game finished 1-0 to Everton. There were plenty of positives to be taken away in Bandon’s first game in the Premier League.
Bandon’s next game is at home in the Town Park on Saturday at 3pm to Wilton United in the FAI Intermediate Cup.
